Platies is the westernmost settlement of the former municipality of Elios - Pronnoi, which covered the southeastern part of Kefalonia. A very short distance from the village is Koroni, one of the most impressive beaches of Kefalonia. Platies was a single community with the larger village of Valeriano and the neighbouring Atsoupades. From Valeriano came one of the navigators explorers of the North American coast, who was known as Juan de Fuca, but his real name was Ioannis Fokas Vallerianos. The village may also be heard called “Platies” for the sake of brevity by the locals. As one comes from Argostoli, just after Simotata of Livhato, one meets Platies on the road. They are about 22 kilometers from the port of Poros, the largest in the area and if you start from there, you will find the Platies just after the village of Atsoupades.
