Kalives is a seaside village in Apokoronas district. It is believed that the ancient city of Amphimatrion, was located there. In 1206, the Castel Apicorno was built east of the village to ward off the invaders, and in 1538 the place was destroyed by the pirate Barbarossa. Kalyves is very close to the ancient city of Aptera (5 km), as well as the Ottoman fortresses of Injedin and Palekastro. On the Kastelli hill there are the remains of the Venetian castle of Apokoronas. In addition, in Mesopotamos river there is a Venetian watermill. In the village there are many services such as banks, supermarkets, pharmacy and you can enjoy the local cuisine in the traditional taverns by the sea or in the village.
