Sights 1. Traditional Settlement: The village retains its traditional charm with stone houses, narrow streets, and natural 'keramidopetra' (large slabs resembling tiles), from which it is believed to have taken its name. 2. Ancient Settlement at the Tower: About 4 kilometers south of Keramos, near the sea, are the ruins of an ancient settlement from the pre-palatial period (2600-2000 BC), with walls, pottery, and coins. The area is associated with the ancient city of Bionnos or Kionia. 3. Natural Landscapes: Keramos Hill offers impressive views and hiking trails, while its steep rocky side adds drama to the landscape. 4. Nearby Beaches: Agia Fotia: About 4 kilometers from Keramos. A small, quiet beach with pebbles and crystal clear waters, ideal for seclusion. It is less well known than other beaches in the area, so it offers tranquility even in summer. There are rocks that create natural caves, adding a special charm. Ligres: About 5 kilometers from Kerame. One of the most famous beaches in Crete, known for the palm forest that stretches along the Kourtaliotis River, which ends at the sea. The beach combines golden sand, turquoise waters, and exotic scenery, reminiscent of a tropical destination. An ideal beach for swimming, hiking in the palm forest, and exploring the area around the river. Agios Pavlos: About 15 kilometers from Kerame. It is smaller and more secluded than Triopetra, with fine sand, rocks that form natural pools, and sand dunes that add to its beauty. Its waters are deep, clear, and bright blue, ideal for snorkeling, although there can be waves. It has a tavern and a few rooms, without organized facilities. It is suitable for swimming, exploring, yoga, and is best in summer for swimming or in autumn for tranquility. Activities • Hiking: The area is ideal for hiking in the surrounding mountains and gorges, such as the nearby Kourtaliotis Gorge. • Gastronomy: Try local specialties such as dako, boubouristou snails, and Cretan cheeses in taverns in the village or neighboring settlements. • Photography: The traditional architecture and natural landscapes offer excellent opportunities for photography enthusiasts. Accommodation Kerames has few accommodation options, mainly rooms to let and small guesthouses offering authentic hospitality. When to visit • Summer: Ideal for beaches and warm weather (June-August). • Spring/Fall: Best for hiking and mild weather (April-May, September-October).
