The village's name is due to Saint Sulla, who is also its patron saint. It was first mentioned in Venetian censuses. According to the Kallikrates plan and its amendment by Cleisthenes I, together with the settlements of Zervos Metochi, Kampos, Malades and Tsagaraki, they constitute the community of Agios Syllas, which falls under the municipal unit of Temenos of the Municipality of Heraklion and, according to the 2011 census, has a population of 545 residents.
