On a plot of 4580.00 sq.m. at a prominent point of the settlement of Vourkari overlooking the sunset at the picturesque harbor of the island, a complex of three cave houses was designed, with absolute adaptation to the natural environment. There is a sharp height difference on the plot. The residences are sited so that to achieve the best possible integration of them into the relief of the ground and at the same time enjoying the excellent view to the west. The aim of the study is that the building complex functions as a natural continuation of the landscape so that it leaves the smallest possible footprint on the environment. The cavernous layout, in addition to its harmonious integration into the landscape, was also chosen for bioclimatic reasons since by definition buildings are surrounded by natural terrain constant temperature. At the same time, the use of light fixtures contributes to the bioclimate behavior of buildings because they offer cooling during the summer months, increased sunlight in the winter while ensuring transparency and ventilation throughout the year time. In addition, they improve the lighting of the interior spaces. The design of the environment includes a set of outdoor spaces in which includes the construction of swimming pools as well as creation of parking spaces. Partially covered outdoor spaces are provided through a concrete shelter to create shade and coolness and to protect and the view from overheating. The planted area is created by the construction of retaining walls and outdoor ones of small-scale stone elements, where required, for the smooth adjustment with the natural soil. The free space encourages the coexistence of users while at the same time ensuring their individuality. Modern architecture materials are used that harmonize with the Cycladic style landscape, such as local stone (excavated product), elements of uncoated concrete on the pergolas and elements of the outdoor space, white coating inside and cement mortar on the floors.
