The well-known residential complex in Agios Spyridonas, Porto Rafti, was designed and built by the architect and urban planner Konstantinos Doxiadis in the early 1970s. The shared indoor and outdoor spaces are very important and form the core of the whole complex. The buildings are mainly constructed with natural stone and are arranged in harmony with the natural landscape of the area. The balance between closed, open and semi-open spaces reflects the idea of a close relationship between people, nature and the environment. The “Apollonio” complex includes mostly residential houses, many of which belonged to well-known personalities of that time. It also includes common areas, a meeting and event center where the World Society of Ekistics held its gatherings, an open-air theater, a church, gardens, and the architect’s own residence. In 2011, after information provided by “Monumenta”, the complex was officially designated as a Historical Site by the Ministry of Culture.
