The town of Lavrio is home to the fastest developing port of Greece. Many of the ferry lines that connect Athens to the Cycladic islands (a major tourist destination) are now being transferred from the port of Piraeus to Lavrio in order to lighten its load. Other noteworthy changes include the upcoming construction of a marina for mega yachts, the only one in Greece, as there is already a marina for smaller yachts and boats. Finally, another major development is the expansion of the suburban railway which will connect the region directly to the airport and to the capital’s public transit system, thus increasing significantly its accessibility and turning it into an important meeting point. There are many attractions within Lavrio and in close proximity to the town. Beginning with the sights within the city, these include the neoclassical buildings which give a sense of history and lend a sense of grace to the town. A unique aspect of the town of Lavrio is the mining and metallurgical activities that took place in the 19th and early 20th century, making it one of the most important industrial cities at the time. Indeed, the ancient Greeks were mining in the area before 3000 B.C. Today, the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) has restored the area and created “The Lavrion Technological and Cultural Park”, thus preserving the town’s historical identity. Another significant historical monument less than 10 km from Lavrio is the ancient temple of Poseidon, in Cape Sounion, the site where the king Aegeus, the king of Athens jumped off the cliff, thus giving his name to the Aegean Sea. The hotel in question sits amphitheatrically on a site which overlooks the sea and the harbor. In the proposed renovation, it would be comprised of the following functions: Level -2, the garage, Level -1, the kitchen, the laundry, the storage rooms, Level 0, the lobby, Level 1, 10 rooms, Level 2, 10 rooms and Level 3 the roof garden and the bar. In total there would be 20 rooms. In summary, this hotel combines an ideal location providing the best of both worlds: a close proximity to the airport and to Athens, as well as an idyllic environment, close to the sea and to nature. As it has been mentioned, Lavrio hosts the country’s fastest developing port, making it a dynamic yet serene environment.
